The drive out to Haymarket
Haymarket sits at the western corner of Prince William County, right where the rolling farmland of the Bull Run Mountains starts giving way to subdivisions. From our shop at 266 Grove Farm Road in Front Royal, it is a straight run east on Interstate 66, past The Plains and Gainesville, about 35 miles door to town. We make that drive often, because the housing out here keeps us busy, and because somebody has to answer the phone when a tankless unit quits at six in the morning before the kids are up for school.
What makes Haymarket worth knowing as a plumber is how mixed it is. The split in Haymarket’s housing stock is the whole story for a plumber. The original village, the streets named for presidents and the lots that go back generations, holds homes that have been added onto, re-plumbed in pieces, and patched by three different owners.
