When A New Faucet Is The Right Call

Some faucets are worth rebuilding. Most are not. A new faucet that fights you every morning is telling you something, and so is one that’s leaking where you can’t see it.

  • The handle drips no matter how hard you crank it, and you’ve already replaced the cartridge or washer once.
  • You spot a damp ring, swelling, or peeling under the sink, which usually means the supply connections or the faucet base have been seeping for a while.
  • The finish is flaking, the aerator is crusted with hard-water scale, and the spray has dropped to a trickle.
  • You’re putting in a new sink, vanity, or countertop and the old faucet won’t line up with the new hole spacing.
  • The single handle is so loose it spins, or so stiff your kids can’t turn it, and parts for that model are no longer made.
  • You want a pull-down sprayer, a touchless kitchen faucet, or a higher arc to fill stockpots, and the existing one can’t do it.

If you’re not sure which side of that line you’re on, that’s a phone call, not a guess. We’ll look at the faucet, the valves, and the connections and give you the honest answer.

How Ajax Installs A Faucet

The faucet itself is the easy part. Doing it without flooding a cabinet or leaving a slow leak that rots the wood is the part that takes a plumber.

Shut off and check

We Test The Shutoffs First

Before anything comes apart, we close the angle stops under the sink and confirm they actually hold. In a lot of Front Royal homes those little valves haven’t moved in twenty years and seize or weep when you turn them. If yours are bad, we tell you up front and replace them so you’re not stuck shutting off the whole house every time the faucet needs work.

Pull the old one

Old Faucet And Lines Come Out Clean

We disconnect the supply lines, break loose the mounting nuts up under the deck, and lift the old faucet out. Then we scrape the old putty, silicone, and mineral buildup off the sink deck so the new base seats flat. Skipping that step is how you get a faucet that rocks and a seal that leaks in six months.

Set and seal

New Faucet Mounted And Sealed Right

We set the gasket or a clean bead of plumber’s putty, drop the faucet, and tighten the mounting hardware evenly so it sits dead square with no wobble. On pull-down models we route the weighted hose so the sprayer retracts the way it’s supposed to instead of hanging halfway out.

New supply lines

Fresh Braided Supply Lines

We almost always run new braided stainless supply lines instead of reusing brittle old ones. They cost a few dollars and they’re the part most likely to fail and soak a cabinet. We hand-tighten, then snug them with a wrench, never gorilla them, because over-tightening cracks the connection just as fast as leaving it loose.

Pressure test

We Run It And Watch For Leaks

We open the stops, run hot and cold, fill and drain the sink, and put a dry hand on every joint while the water is moving. We pull the aerator and flush the lines so debris doesn’t clog your new faucet. You don’t leave until it’s quiet and dry under the sink, and we clean up after ourselves.

Faucets We Set, Room By Room

Kitchen Faucets

Single-handle, pull-down, pull-out, and touchless. We handle high-arc spouts, separate sprayers, and the deck plate that covers extra holes when you go from a four-hole sink to a one-hole faucet. If you’ve added a filtered water dispenser or a soap pump, we line those up too.

Bathroom Faucets

Centerset, widespread, and single-hole vanity faucets, plus wall-mount setups on a remodel. We match the faucet to the sink’s hole spacing so you’re not stuck buying a new sink, and we set pop-up drains so they actually seal.

Tub And Shower Valves

Tub spouts, shower trim, and the valve behind the wall when an old one is leaking or scalding. This is more than a faucet swap, and we treat it that way, because the part you can’t see is the part that floods the room below.

Laundry And Utility

Mop-sink, laundry-tub, and outdoor hose-bibb faucets, including frost-proof sillcocks. Out here a standard outside faucet that holds water over the winter cracks and splits the line behind the wall, so we set the right one for a Shenandoah Valley cold snap.

We tell you what it costs before we touch a wrench. No surprise on the invoice.

A straight faucet swap with good existing shutoffs is a quick, predictable job and we price it that way. The cost goes up when the valves under the sink are shot, the old faucet is corroded solid to the deck, or the supply stubs need work, and that’s exactly the kind of thing we point out before we start instead of tacking it on at the end.

Quotes are free. If you’ve got the faucet already, we’ll set it. If you want us to bring one, we’ll tell you straight which models hold up and which ones we end up replacing two years later. Ask us about the free quote and we’ll walk through your sink with you.

Front Royal Sinks Have Their Own Quirks

We’ve worked under a lot of cabinets from Front Royal up the Valley and across into the Eastern Panhandle. The faucet that goes in the same everywhere, but what’s under the sink rarely does.

A lot of homes around Front Royal and Warren County run on well water, and well water out here is hard. That scale chews through cartridges and clogs aerators faster than city water does, so a faucet that “wore out” in three years may really be a mineral problem. We’ll tell you whether a new faucet alone fixes it or whether the water is the bigger story.

Older houses in town and out toward the Shenandoah River often still have the original chrome angle stops or no shutoff at all under the sink. We carry quarter-turn valves on the truck and put proper shutoffs in while we’re there, so the next time anything goes wrong you can close one valve instead of the whole house.

Hard winters matter here. An outside or utility faucet that isn’t frost-proof can burst the line inside the wall on the first deep freeze, and we don’t see it until it thaws and floods. When we set a hose bibb or a utility faucet, we set one built for a real Northern Virginia cold snap.

From Front Royal we run jobs across the Shenandoah Valley, into Northern Virginia, and over to the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. Whether it’s a single bathroom faucet or a full kitchen swap during a remodel, it’s the same two of us showing up, and we treat your sink like it’s ours.

Faucet Installation Questions

Can I buy my own faucet and have you install it?

Yes. Plenty of folks pick out their own kitchen or bath faucet and have us set it, and that’s no problem at all. If you want our read first, ask us before you buy. We’ll tell you straight which brands and styles hold up in this hard well water and which ones we tend to be back to replace in a couple of years.

How long does a faucet installation take?

A straightforward swap where the shutoff valves are good usually runs about an hour. It takes longer when the old faucet is corroded onto the deck, the angle stops are seized and need replacing, or the supply lines need work. We’ll give you a realistic time and price before we start so there’s no surprise.

My shutoff valves under the sink are old. Do those have to be replaced?

Not always, but we check them first every time. In a lot of older Front Royal homes those little valves are stiff, drip, or won’t fully close, and you don’t want to find that out the next time the faucet leaks. If yours are bad we’ll show you and swap them for quarter-turn valves while we’re already under there, which is the cheapest time to do it.

Why is my brand-new faucet already dripping or low on pressure?

Two common causes out here. Low pressure right after install usually means debris from the lines is caught in the aerator, which is a quick clean. A drip at the base or under the sink points to a connection that needs to be reseated. Either way, if we set it, we come back and make it right. If someone else did and it’s failing, give us a call and we’ll diagnose it.

Do you install outdoor and utility faucets too?

Yes. We set laundry-tub faucets, mop-sink faucets, and outdoor hose bibbs, including frost-proof sillcocks. With the winters we get in the Shenandoah Valley, an outside faucet that holds water can split the pipe behind the wall, so we put in the right freeze-resistant type.

Do you serve areas outside Front Royal?
