Pipe Repair Done Right the First Time

A bad joint, a pinhole in the copper, a line that split when it froze. We find what failed, fix that, and tell you straight what it cost and why.

540-671-5417 Father and son. 45 years combined. 24/7 emergency.

A leaking pipe does not get better on its own. The water finds the lowest spot it can reach, soaks into a subfloor or a ceiling, and by the time you see a stain the damage has been going for a while. Ajax Plumbing is a family shop in Front Royal, just the two of us, a father and son with 45 years of combined work behind us. When you call about a pipe, you get one of us, not a call center. We come out, we figure out what actually broke, and we repair the thing that broke. We do not sell you a whole repipe to fix a single bad fitting, and we do not patch over a problem that is going to come back next winter. You get a real answer either way.

The signs you have a pipe problem

Some of these are loud. Most of them are quiet, and the quiet ones cost the most because they run for weeks before anybody notices.

  • /
Water stains on a ceiling or wallA brown ring that keeps growing means a line above it is weeping. The drywall is the messenger, not the problem.
  • /
A water bill that jumped for no reasonUsage spikes with nothing changed in the house almost always trace back to a slow leak underground or behind a wall.
  • /
Low pressure at one or more fixturesA corroded or partly collapsed section chokes flow long before it bursts open.
  • /
Green or white crust on copperThat residue is the start of a pinhole. Copper in older Front Royal homes pits from the inside out.

How Ajax repairs a pipe

We find the actual leak first

Half the job is locating the failure without tearing the house apart guessing. We trace the wet path back to its source, check pressure, and open only what we have to open. On a slab or behind finished wall, we work the access down to the smallest opening that gets us to the bad section. The goal is a clean repair, not a demolition.

We diagnose why it failed

A pipe rarely fails for no reason. Frozen and split is one cause. A pinhole from corrosion is another. A dry-fit or under-soldered joint from a past repair is another. Tree roots and shifting soil get the lines outside. Knowing the cause is what keeps the repair from coming back, so we tell you which one it is.

We cut out the bad section and repair it correctly

We remove the damaged length, prep clean ends, and join in new pipe the right way for the material. Copper gets cleaned, fluxed, and sweated, or pressed with a rated fitting where heat is a hazard. PEX gets a proper crimp or expansion ring. CPVC and PVC get cleaned and solvent welded with full cure time. We pressure test before we close anything up.

We clean up and walk you through it

We test the fixtures, confirm there is no weep at the new joint, and show you what we did. If the underlying cause means more is coming, we say so plainly, in your kitchen, before you ever see a bill.

We do not patch over a problem that is coming back. We fix the thing that actually broke.

How we work, every job.

What it costs, and why we say it up front

Quotes are free. We come out, find the problem, and give you a number before any work starts. A single accessible joint repair is a small job and we price it like one. A leak under a slab, inside a finished wall, or in a buried line outside takes more time and more care to reach, and that is reflected honestly.

We do not pad the bill with parts you do not need, and we do not quote a repipe to fix a fitting. If a section of copper is so far gone that patching one pinhole just means another next month, we will tell you that, show you the pitting, and let you decide. The choice is yours. Our job is to give you the straight version so you can make it.

If the repair traces back to a frozen line this winter, the 10 percent off frozen water-line discount comes off your total. You do not have to ask for it. We apply it.

Built for Front Royal winters and older homes

Pipe repair here is its own animal. A lot of homes in Front Royal and out through the Shenandoah Valley were built decades ago, with copper or galvanized that has been quietly corroding for years. Crawl spaces and unheated basements leave supply lines exposed, and a cold January snap finds the weakest one and splits it. Out toward the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia and the rural parts of Northern Virginia, plenty of properties run on wells, which adds its own runs and its own failure points.

We have worked these houses for a long time. We know where the old galvanized tends to give out, why a crawl-space line freezes when the rest of the house is fine, and how hard water and well water treat copper over the years. That local read is the difference between a guess and a fix. Need to see the kind of work we do? Take a look at our gallery.

Common pipe repair questions

How fast can you get to a burst or leaking pipe?

We run 24/7 emergency service. If a pipe is actively leaking, shut your main off at the meter or the house valve and call us at 540-671-5417. Stopping the water is the first thing that limits the damage, and we will be moving toward you while you do it.

Can you fix one section, or does the whole pipe have to go?

Most of the time we repair just the failed section. We only recommend replacing a longer run when the pipe is so corroded that fixing one spot means another leak right behind it. If that is the case we show you the pitting and let you decide. We never quote a full repipe to fix a single joint.

My pipe froze and split. Is there a discount?

Yes. We take 10 percent off frozen water-line repairs. Front Royal and the Valley get cold enough that this comes up every winter, especially in crawl spaces and unheated basements, so we built the discount in. You do not have to ask, we apply it.

How do you find a leak inside a wall or under the slab?

We trace the wet path, check pressure, and isolate the line down to the failed section before we open anything. The aim is the smallest access possible to reach the bad spot, so you are not left with a wall torn open wider than the repair needed.

What pipe materials do you repair?

Copper, PEX, CPVC, PVC, galvanized, and cast iron, on both supply and drain lines, plus well and pressure lines for the many properties out here that run on a well. We match the repair to the material so it holds.

Do I pay for a quote?

No. Quotes are free. We come out, find the problem, and give you the price before any work begins. No surprise add-ons at the end.
